About PSET files

A .pset file typically serves one of two distinct, technical purposes. Most commonly, it is a Drawing Print Set generated by MicroStation or OpenRoads Designer by Bentley Systems. In this context, the file acts as a batch plotting container - essentially a list of links to specific .DGN or .DWG drawings, print drivers, and sheet layouts configured for mass printing. These files are often proprietary containers (internally structured as ZIP archives in modern iterations) that are impossible to parse without the specific CAD environment. Users frequently face difficulties when trying to 'open' a .pset because it does not contain the actual drawings, only the instructions to find and print them. Without the linked CAD files and network paths, the .pset is useless.

Alternatively, on macOS, a .pset file represents a Print Settings Preset. This is an XML-based configuration file used to store printer-specific preferences like tray selection, paper size, and color management options. Users generally need to convert these to view the raw XML data or migrate settings between machines. For CAD users, the goal is usually converting the referenced drawings into a single multipage PDF; for Mac users, it is often about viewing the configuration in a text editor.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PSET file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XML, PRFPSET, PDF, PCP, HAT and RDT files.

The PSET Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PSET converter.
