About ATC files
The .atc file extension is a chameleon, serving three distinct, incompatible purposes in professional workflows.
Most commonly, it acts as an AutoCAD Tool Palette Catalog. Generated by Autodesk AutoCAD, these XML-based files store definitions for custom tool palettes and user interface configurations. While they are text-based, the proprietary schema makes them difficult to edit manually or migrate between different versions of AutoCAD without breaking path references. Users often need to convert these into standard XML or repackage them (often alongside image assets) into ZIP archives to share toolsets between workstations without triggering "missing resource" errors.
In the medical field, .atc refers to raw ECG data recorded by AliveCor Kardia Mobile devices. These files are strictly proprietary binary data. Patients and doctors frequently struggle to view these outside the mobile app, creating a strong need to convert them to PDF for printing or CSV for statistical analysis in Excel.
Finally, .atc may be an encrypted container created by the Japanese security utility Attache Case. These files utilize AES-256 encryption to lock sensitive data. The primary friction here is accessibility: you cannot view the contents without the specific decryption software and the password. For archiving, it is highly recommended to decrypt these containers and convert the internal files to open formats like PDF or ZIP to avoid future vendor lock-in.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ATC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted ACT, PDF, DOCX, ACTION, TTP, VTU and D83 files.
The ATC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ATC converter.
