About CND files
The .CND extension is a notorious source of confusion because it serves three distinct, incompatible ecosystems: vector-based embroidery, CD/DVD label design, and industrial hardware configuration.
Most commonly, users encountering this format are dealing with a Melco Condensed Embroidery file. Unlike standard stitch files (like DST or PES), a CND file stores the design in a vector format (shapes and outlines) rather than raw stitch coordinates. While this allows for infinite scaling in software like Melco DesignShop, it creates a major problem: embroidery machines cannot read it directly. You must convert it to an "expanded" format to actually stitch the design.
Alternatively, you may possess a legacy SureThing CD/DVD label design. These files often rely on older proprietary software, making them inaccessible on modern OSs or mobile devices. Opening them typically requires the original SureThing software, preventing easy sharing or printing.
Finally, in scientific and industrial settings, .CND files act as "condition" (configuration) files for Graphtec data loggers or JEOL electron microscopes. These are often proprietary binary or text files locked to specific hardware.
Best Conversion Targets:
For Embroidery: Convert to DST, EXP, or PES for compatibility with Brother, Tajima, and Bernina machines.
For Labels/Print: Convert SureThing files to PDF or JPG to print without specific software.
For Data/Settings: If the file is text-based (Graphtec/JEOL), convert to CSV or TXT to view parameters in Excel.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CND file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CND file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use Melco DesignShop or similar software from the "Vector Embroidery & Settings" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to CND, try Melco DesignShop or another comparable tool in the "Vector Embroidery & Settings" category.
The CND Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CND converter.
