The .CMZ file extension is heavily fragmented and used by several completely distinct, specialized software ecosystems. Most commonly, it functions as a proprietary CAD pattern file for Comelz automated cutting machines used in the footwear, leather, and apparel industries. Other frequent uses include 3D interior design projects generated by ArredoCAD, advanced machining drawings from Cimatron, and motion analysis workspaces from C-Motion Visual3D. Occasionally, it serves as a simple ZIP-based backup archive for Accomplish CashManager software or a compressed camera set in Poser. The primary disadvantage of the .CMZ format is its heavily proprietary, locked-down nature. Because there is no single standardized structure for a .CMZ file, your operating system and web browser will not know how to handle it. If a manufacturer sends you a .CMZ cutting pattern or interior layout, you cannot view or edit it without purchasing expensive, niche software.
