About CAPROJ files
A .caproj file is the XML-based project index for a game created with Scirra Construct 2. Unlike the self-contained CAPX format (which zips everything into one file), the .caproj file functions as a blueprint that sits inside a project folder. It references external assets like images, sounds, and event sheets stored in neighboring subdirectories.
Because it is strictly a text-based definition file (XML), a .caproj file cannot be "played" like a game or converted directly to video (MP4) or executable (EXE) formats by standard file converters. The file itself contains no media - only the instructions on how to assemble them. A common problem for users is sharing just the .caproj file without the accompanying asset folder, rendering the project unopenable.
To convert a .caproj into a playable game, you must open it in the original Construct 2 software or import it into the modern web-based Construct 3 engine. From there, you can export the project to HTML5, Android (.APK), or Windows (.EXE). To archive or backup the project, it is best practice to save it as a single CAPX file or convert it to the newer .C3P format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CAPROJ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CAPROJ file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use Construct 2 or similar software from the "Game Development Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to CAPROJ, try Construct 2 or another comparable tool in the "Game Development Project" category.
The CAPROJ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CAPROJ converter.
