About CAPX files
A .capx file is a compressed project file created by Construct 2 or Construct 3, a popular 2D game engine developed by Scirra Ltd. It acts as a container that stores all the game assets, event sheets, logic, and project configurations inside a single archive. The main disadvantage of the .capx format is that it is strictly proprietary to the Construct ecosystem. It is not a playable game file and cannot be natively executed by web browsers or operating systems. Sharing raw .capx files is frustrating because the recipient needs the exact software version, and sometimes specific paid plugins, to open the project without errors. To play the game, users must export the project. The best conversion targets for a finished project are HTML5, executable .EXE, or mobile app packages like .APK. However, this file format is difficult to open or convert using standard tools because it is essentially a proprietary wrapper for a specific game engine. Standard online converters fail to process it because compiling the source code requires the original Scirra engine. Despite this, the internal structure of a .capx file is actually a standard ZIP archive.
