Convert CAE to another file type

To convert CAE models to another format, you need SIMULIA Abaqus or other Database software.

Convert a file to CAE

To convert other file formats to the "Abaqus Model Database" file type, you need software like SIMULIA Abaqus or a similar tool.

About CAE files

A .CAE file is primarily an Abaqus Model Database used by Dassault Systèmes SIMULIA Abaqus to store advanced finite element analysis (FEA) models, geometry, material properties, load histories, and complex mesh data. Secondarily, the extension is used for encrypted educational video recordings played through Hoven Player, as well as niche hardware applications like ASRock Boardview schematics, IBM Client Access configurations, and KUKA Robotics application packages. Because the Abaqus .CAE format is heavily proprietary, mathematically complex, and frequently exceeds gigabytes in size, these files are notoriously difficult to share. Recipients are entirely blocked from viewing the contents if they do not hold a highly expensive, active SIMULIA subscription. Standard web browsers, default operating system tools, and third-party 3D CAD viewers cannot read or render the internal binary structures of a native Abaqus database. Furthermore, converting a .CAE file to widely supported 3D interchange formats like STEP, IGES, or STL usually requires the original Abaqus software to compute and export the model manually. Standard online converters completely fail to process .CAE files because they lack the proprietary rendering engine required to parse the nodes and boundary conditions. The same is true for Hoven Player videos, which apply DRM-like encryption to restrict playback exclusively to authorized students. Our analyzer inspects the internal file signature to tell you exactly which variation of a .CAE file you possess. If the file is actually a KUKA Java Archive, which relies on standard ZIP compression, our tool can identify and extract its contents.

Convert.Guru analyzes your CAE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted RPT, EDZ, INP, ZMF and MDL files.

FAQ

If you want to convert CAE file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use SIMULIA Abaqus or similar software from the "Finite Element Analysis Database" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to CAE, try SIMULIA Abaqus or another comparable tool in the "Finite Element Analysis Database" category.

The CAE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CAE converter.
