Convert a file to BLUE

To convert other file formats to the "Game & SDR Binary File" file type, you need software like EVE Online or a similar tool.

About BLUE files

A .blue file typically serves as either a proprietary game asset for the MMO EVE Online or as a raw Midas Blue File storing binary IQ (In-phase and Quadrature) data for Software Defined Radio (SDR) systems. In EVE Online, these files pack internal textures, 3D models, or configuration parameters required by the game client. In signal processing, the X-Midas framework uses them to record continuous streams of radio frequency telemetry.

Users typically attempt to convert these files to extract game textures for fan projects or to translate Midas RF data into standard tabular formats for statistical analysis. However, the .blue format presents significant disadvantages. The EVE Online variant is a closed, proprietary wrapper designed specifically to prevent data mining and modification. The Midas variant is an unstructured binary format consisting of a rigid 512-byte metadata header followed directly by raw floating-point data. These files are completely unsupported by native operating systems or web browsers, and signal recordings often exceed tens of gigabytes, making them difficult to share or store.

For Midas signal data, the most practical target formats are CSV or HDF5 for data analysis, though converting raw binary to CSV will drastically inflate the file size and slow down read operations. For EVE assets, specialized community extractors typically target DDS or PNG for images, but you may lose proprietary 3D shader mappings in the process.

This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard media software cannot parse undocumented game engines or binary SDR headers. Often, only the original game client or specialized Python scripts using libraries like NumPy can properly read or export the data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your BLUE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SHW, JPG, BLACK, LBW, XBT and RED files.

FAQ

If you want to convert BLUE file to BLACK, RED, OBJ, FBX, DAE, 3DS, MAX, BLEND, MA, MB, C4D or STL, you can use EVE Online or similar software from the "Game Assets & Signal Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DWG, DAE, X3D, IGES, WRL, JT, SKP, 3DS, 3DM, OBJ, STEP or FBX files to BLUE, try EVE Online or another comparable tool in the "Game Assets & Signal Data" category.

The BLUE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BLUE converter.
