These files act as a universal container for project budgets, cost databases, bill of quantities, and technical specifications, allowing interoperability between specialized software like RIB Presto and CYPE Arquimedes.
While .BC3 files are technically ASCII text-based, they utilize a rigorous, non-intuitive syntax (records starting with ~V, ~K, ~C) that makes them practically unreadable to humans without specialized tools. A major difficulty is the requirement for expensive, industry-specific proprietary software to visualize the hierarchical cost structures properly. Furthermore, users often encounter character encoding issues (ANSI vs. UTF-8) that corrupt special characters when opening older files. To bypass these constraints, the most practical solution is converting the file.
