About BAI2 files
The .BAI2 file (Bank Administration Institute Version 2) is the standard cash management format used by banks to transmit account balances and transaction data to corporate treasury systems. While technically a text file, it uses a complex, hierarchical structure where rows serve different purposes based on their leading code (e.g., 01 for file headers, 03 for account info, 16 for transaction details, and 88 for continuation lines).
The Problem: Because it is designed for mainframe processing and ERP ingestion, it is not human-readable. Opening a .BAI2 file directly in Microsoft Excel is disastrous; the varying row structures misalignment columns, leading zeros are stripped from account numbers, and transaction codes remain cryptic integers.
The Solution: For manual reconciliation, auditing, or archiving, users convert .BAI2 to XLSX (Excel) or CSV. This flattens the hierarchy, allowing you to filter by transaction type (Credits/Debits), view readable descriptions, and sum totals accurately. For formal record-keeping, converting to PDF creates a clean, statement-style document.
Convert.Guru analyzes your BAI2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert BAI2 file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use SAP S/4HANA or similar software from the "Bank Statement Reporting" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to BAI2, try SAP S/4HANA or another comparable tool in the "Bank Statement Reporting" category.
The BAI2 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our BAI2 converter.
