About QBO files

A .QBO file, known as a QuickBooks Web Connect file, is the standard format used by banks and financial institutions to transfer transaction data specifically into Intuit QuickBooks. While technically based on the OFX (Open Financial Exchange) XML standard, these files contain proprietary headers and strict formatting rules that often prevent them from opening in other financial software like Quicken or generic spreadsheet tools.

The primary frustration users face is the "black box" nature of the file; without QuickBooks installed, the data is essentially unreadable. You cannot double-click to view your transactions in a grid, and if your version of QuickBooks is older than three years (the "sunset" period), the software may refuse to import the file entirely due to outdated Financial Institution IDs (FIDs). Furthermore, once data is imported, it can be difficult to audit or manipulate without messing up your company file.

To regain control over your financial data, converting .QBO files is a standard workflow:

Convert.Guru analyzes your QBO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted QFX, OFX, CSV, ASO, PDF, QIF, QBB, XLSX, QB, QBX, QUICKEN, AFX and IIF files.
