About AXD files
AXD files serve two entirely different primary functions: dynamically generated Microsoft ASP.NET web resources and proprietary electrical CAD drawings from SEE Electrical. In the context of ASP.NET, files like WebResource.axd or ScriptResource.axd do not exist on the server's physical disk. Instead, the framework generates them in memory to deliver embedded scripts, stylesheets, or images to the client browser. Alternatively, the .axd extension is used by IGE+XAO's SEE Electrical software to store complex electrical schematics using a Microsoft Compound file structure.
Users usually encounter .axd files as a web download error. When a server is misconfigured, a user attempting to download a PDF, ZIP, or image file will instead receive a file generically named download.axd or handler.axd. This file type is highly disadvantageous for end-users because standard operating systems do not know how to open it. For the CAD variant, the disadvantage is vendor lock-in; the format is closed, proprietary, and requires a costly software license to open or edit, making collaboration with non-engineers difficult.
To fix an accidentally downloaded web resource, the best conversion target is usually the originally intended format. You can often simply rename the extension to PDF, ZIP, or JPG. For SEE Electrical files, the best target formats are DXF or PDF to ensure universal viewing across different engineering teams.
Converting .axd files is notoriously difficult because standard online converters rely on file extensions to guess the data type. They instantly fail when handed a dynamically generated HTTP handler or a proprietary CAD format. Our system scans the internal hex signatures of the .axd file. If our analysis detects an embedded PDF, a ZIP archive, or a standard image file, we can extract the underlying format, allowing you to bypass the server's naming error entirely.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AXD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert AXD file to PDF, HTML, HTM, CSS, JS, PHP, ASP, ASPX, JSP, JSPX, PY or RB, you can use Microsoft ASP.NET or similar software from the "ASP.NET Web Resource Handler" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RSS, CSS, CGI, SITEMAP, PL, WEBMANIFEST, JSON, JS, XML, HTML, ICO or HTM files to AXD, try Microsoft ASP.NET or another comparable tool in the "ASP.NET Web Resource Handler" category.
The AXD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AXD converter.
