To convert other file formats to the "ARRIRAW Image Sequence" file type, you need software like DaVinci Resolve or a similar tool.
The .ARI file extension primarily represents an ARRIRAW camera image. It is a proprietary raw image format created by professional digital cinema cameras manufactured by ARRI (such as the ARRI ALEXA). Typically, these files are saved as an image sequence, where each .ARI file represents a single, uncompressed or mathematically lossless 12-bit sensor frame.
Working with .ARI files presents extreme challenges for standard users. They are exceptionally massive; a single minute of high-resolution footage can consume over 14GB of storage. They are proprietary and demand heavy-duty post-production software like DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, or the official ARRI Reference Tool to mathematically debayer the raw sensor data. You cannot open an .ARI file in native OS image viewers or web browsers, and sharing them raw with clients is completely impractical.
Because of these rigid limitations, production professionals usually convert .ARI sequences into proxy video formats like MP4 (H.264) or MOV (Apple ProRes) for editing and review. For visual effects workflows, they are often exported as high-dynamic-range EXR or DPX files. This format is notoriously difficult for standard online converters to process because it requires specialized color science algorithms to interpret the Bayer pattern correctly.
