To convert other file formats to the "Temporary Video Container" file type, you need software like aTube Catcher or a similar tool.
About APT files
Files with the .apt extension suffer from a significant identity crisis, creating confusion for users trying to open them. The most common variety (approx. 34%) is a video file generated by aTube Catcher, a popular tool for downloading web content. In this context, the file is often an MP4 container that hasn't been finalized or renamed properly. Users frequently encounter these files when a download is interrupted or the software fails to trigger its post-processing step. As a result, standard players like VLC Media Player or Windows Media Player will typically reject the file as unrecognized garbage, even if valid video streams exist inside.
A secondary, distinct group of .apt files relates to textual data. This includes the Almost Plain Text format (a lightweight markup language) or StanForD forestry machine logs. These are technically plain text but often contain structured data or proprietary headers that look like gibberish in standard text editors like Notepad++.
Conversion Strategies:
For Video: Do not simply rename the extension, as the internal file headers may be corrupt or incomplete. Converting to a standardized MP4 or MKV re-indexes the stream, making it playable on all devices.
Convert.Guru analyzes your APT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The APT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our APT converter.
