About POM files

The .POM file extension primarily represents the Project Object Model, the fundamental unit of work in Apache Maven. These are XML text files that contain information about the project and configuration details used by Maven to build the project, including dependencies, build directories, source directories, test source directories, plugins, and goals.

While XML is universal, it is notoriously verbose and difficult to parse visually for complex dependency trees. Developers often struggle with .POM files when migrating to other build tools like Gradle or when attempting to visualize the project structure without an IDE. Additionally, because the format is strictly code-oriented, it cannot be opened by standard document viewers or image editors.

For documentation or visualization, converting .POM to PDF or HTML renders the code into a readable report. For migration or data processing, converting to JSON or YAML makes the structured data easier to parse with modern scripts. Note: In rare legacy cases, a .POM file might be a Nokia operator logo or a Palm OS memo, in which case converting to PNG or TXT respectively is required to view the content.

Convert.Guru analyzes your POM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted XML, MIF, JPG, APT, AVRO, TTL, GRADLE and JAR files.

The POM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our POM converter.
