About AMR files

AMR (Adaptive Multi-Rate) is a compressed audio format standardized by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) specifically for efficient speech coding. Historically, this format was the default standard for voice recordings, MMS messages, and GSM/UMTS mobile calls.

The format uses aggressive lossy compression optimized solely for human speech (frequencies between 200-3400 Hz), making it sound muddy or distorted if used for music.
