The .RMR file extension signifies a proprietary resume document created by Individual Software's ResumeMaker, a long-running application designed to simplify CV creation through templates and guided entry. Unlike standard word processing files, .RMR files encapsulate structured data - such as work history, contact details, and education - mapped dynamically to specific visual themes and layouts.
The catch for users with .RMR files is the "locked-in" nature of the format. You cannot simply double-click an .RMR file to open it in Microsoft Word or Google Docs; doing so usually results in a screen full of garbled binary code. Furthermore, sending an .RMR file directly to a recruiter or HR portal is effectively useless, as their Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) cannot parse the proprietary encoding.
