About AM1 files
A .am1 file is primarily associated with proprietary game data, most notably as a 3D model or animation container used by the Enlight Software AM1 engine (featured in titles like Scrapland). These binary files store geometry, textures, and rigging data specifically optimized for the game's runtime, making them unreadable to standard 3D editors like Blender or Autodesk Maya without extraction tools.
Users typically encounter these files when attempting to mod games or recover assets from older projects. A secondary but significant use (approx. 36%) is as a data file for Clickteam The Games Factory, a legacy game creation suite. Additionally, .am1 serves as a project file for Adventure Maker, containing packaged game logic and media.
The Problem: Because .am1 files are compiled for specific engines, they lack universal compatibility. You cannot simply double-click to view them.
The Solution:
For 3D Models: The goal is conversion to OBJ or FBX for editing. This requires specialized game extractors or 'rippers' specific to the Enlight/Mercury engine.
For Game Projects: These must be opened in their respective authoring tools (Adventure Maker or The Games Factory) to be exported or played.
For Archiving: Converting the extracted assets to standard formats (PNG for textures, OBJ for meshes) is the only way to ensure long-term access.

The AM1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AM1 converter.
