About AIC files
The .AIC file format primarily functions as an Illustrator Cloud Document used by Adobe Illustrator. It allows designers to save vector graphics directly to Adobe Creative Cloud, syncing progress seamlessly across desktop and iPad applications. A secondary, less common use for the .AIC extension is the EDC Classbook electronic textbook data file, which stores educational materials.
Users often need to convert .AIC files because the format is highly restrictive. It is a proprietary cloud-based file that requires a paid monthly subscription to Adobe to open and edit. You cannot simply email an .AIC file to a client or colleague and expect them to view it natively; it is not supported by web browsers, standard image viewers, or third-party vector tools. This strict vendor lock-in creates a major workflow bottleneck for offline collaboration.
The best conversion targets for an .AIC file are standard AI, PDF, or SVG formats. Converting to these local formats ensures permanent offline access and broad compatibility, though you will lose the live cloud-syncing features. For EDC Classbook files, extracting the compressed contents to a standard folder structure is usually the goal.
Unfortunately, this file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert online. Because Adobe's .AIC is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process the complex, Adobe-specific vector rendering instructions. Often, only the original Adobe Illustrator software can properly read or export the graphics. However, just drag and drop your file to convert.guru to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Under the hood, .AIC files are actually standard ZIP or 7Z archives. Our analysis tools can inspect the file, extract the embedded structure, and show internal XML data or rasterized image previews, providing a pragmatic workaround when native conversion is blocked.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AIC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The AIC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AIC converter.
