Convert AFD to another file type
To convert AFD simulations to another format, you need AutoForm or other Data software.
Convert a file to AFD
To convert other file formats to the "Engineering Simulation Data" file type, you need software like AutoForm or a similar tool.
About AFD files
An .AFD file is typically an AutoForm Simulation Data file used for sheet metal forming analysis, or a Torsion Test Data file generated by GUNT Hamburg hardware. These files act as highly specialized engineering data containers. AutoForm Engineering uses them to store complex mathematical models of metal stamping, springback calculations, and die designs.
The main disadvantage of the .AFD format is that it is strictly proprietary. It requires an expensive enterprise license to open natively. Files often exceed gigabytes in size because they store dense, multi-step physical simulations. Standard web browsers, basic CAD viewers, or spreadsheet tools cannot read them.
Users usually need to convert .AFD simulation files to universal 3D formats like STEP, IGES, or STL for sharing with tooling manufacturers. For GUNT Hamburg torsion test files, users need to extract the data to CSV or XLSX for statistical analysis. Note that converting a simulation file to a static 3D model will permanently strip away the animation and physical stress data.
Because .AFD is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the complex engineering data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your AFD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert AFD file to DWG, DXF, DGN, RVT, RFA, SKP, 3DM, STEP, IGES, SAT, X_T or X_B, you can use AutoForm or similar software from the "Simulation and Test Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SLDASM, DGN, PRT, IAM, X_B, CATPRODUCT, SLDPRT, RVT, ASM, DWG, CATPART or DXF files to AFD, try AutoForm or another comparable tool in the "Simulation and Test Data" category.
The AFD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our AFD converter.
