About ADV files

The .ADV extension typically refers to a Rough Diamond Planning file generated by Sarine Advisor, the industry-standard software for analyzing rough gemstones. These files contain complex 3D geometrical data, inclusion mapping, and cut planning solutions used by diamond manufacturers to maximize yield. A key limitation of these files is their heavy reliance on Sarine's proprietary ecosystem; opening them requires an expensive hardware key or viewer license, making it difficult to share stone analysis with clients or investors who lack the software.

For gemological workflows, users often need to convert these scanning reports into PDF for easy viewing or standard 3D formats like STL or OBJ to visualize the rough stone in generic CAD tools.

A secondary but significant use case is the Payment Advice file used by the Kenya Bankers Association (KBA). These are financial data files containing payment processing instructions. Due to their specific banking formatting, they are often unreadable to standard text editors or spreadsheet software. For these users, the goal is typically converting the data into CSV or Excel (XLSX) for reconciliation, or PDF for archiving. Lastly, in scientific circles, .ADV files store acoustic data from SonTek or Nortek velocimeters, which often require conversion to MATLAB or ASCII formats for analysis.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ADV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CAP, DAV, RPT, PLA, JPG, MP4, PDF, QZTP, BEF and GED files.

The ADV Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ADV converter.
