About 123 files
The .123 file extension is most famously associated with Lotus 1-2-3, the pioneering spreadsheet software from Lotus Development Corporation (later acquired by IBM). These files contain rows, columns, formulas, and charts similar to modern spreadsheets. However, because Lotus 1-2-3 was discontinued in 2013 and removed from the IBM Lotus SmartSuite, accessing this data today presents significant challenges. Modern versions of Microsoft Excel no longer natively support opening or importing .123 files, leaving users locked out of legacy financial data and historical records.
To regain access to your data, the most practical solution is converting the file to a standard format. For continued editing and calculation, converting .123 to XLSX (Excel Workbook) or ODS (OpenDocument Spreadsheet) is recommended. If you simply need to extract the raw data for import into a database or another system, converting to CSV is the most compatible choice. For archiving static reports where layout preservation is key, PDF is the ideal target. Note that a minority of .123 files may be Printed Circuit Board (PCB) designs from Sunstone Circuits PCB123 software, which requires specific CAD tools to view.

The 123 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 123 converter.
