About ZPS files
The .zps extension primarily identifies a Zoner Photo Studio project file. This format serves as a digital "negative" or working canvas, utilizing a ZIP-based container to store the source image alongside non-destructive edits, adjustment layers, masks, and text overlays. While this structure is essential for retaining the ability to re-edit specific elements later, it acts as a "locked" box for standard viewing - web browsers, social media platforms, and most image viewers cannot display it. Users typically need to convert these files to JPG, PNG, or PDF to share the final visual with clients or friends.
A secondary, distinct use (approx. 23% share) is for Zest Particle System definition files. These are text-based JSON documents used to define visual particle effects (like smoke or fire) in software development, often associated with assets from ZapSplat. Unlike the image format, these are code-centric and readable in any text editor. Rare instances may also be Zebra Portable Safe files, which are encrypted archives requiring specific passwords to access.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZPS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ZPS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZPS converter.
