About ZPS files
.ZPS files typically serve two distinct purposes. Most commonly, they are layered graphics editor documents created by Zoner Photo Studio to save ongoing image edits. Alternatively, they act as particle system definition files written in JSON for the Zest Particle System, associated with ZapSplat. Zoner Photo Studio projects use a ZIP-compressed container to store layers, masks, adjustment layers, and edit history.
The major disadvantage of the .ZPS format is its proprietary nature. A Zoner Photo Studio .ZPS file cannot be natively opened by standard image viewers, web browsers, or competing professional photo editors like Adobe Photoshop. It locks your complex image edits into a single software ecosystem, requiring an active license just to view your own layers. Similarly, Zest particle files are strictly meant for specific game development and sound design pipelines.
Users frequently need to convert .ZPS to standard formats like JPG, PNG, or TIFF for easy sharing and web compatibility. To retain layer editability across different software, users often seek to convert them to PSD. For the JSON-based particle files, viewing them as raw TXT or JSON is necessary for scripting and debugging.
Because Zoner's .ZPS is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters usually fail to process the complex layer data. Often, only the original Zoner Software can properly read or export the full layer stack to create the final image. However, convert.guru can still identify the file format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. Because the Zoner format relies on an underlying ZIP structure and the Zest format uses standard JSON, just drag and drop your file to see what it is. If our analysis detects supported embedded preview images or raw text data, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZPS file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ZPS file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use Zoner Photo Studio or similar software from the "Layered Image & Particle Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to ZPS, try Zoner Photo Studio or another comparable tool in the "Layered Image & Particle Data" category.
The ZPS Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZPS converter.
