Extract text from Zinio archives or audiobooks (ZAB)

A .ZAB file is primarily a Zinio digital publication archive downloaded for offline reading, or alternatively a Zipped Audio Book used to distribute compressed audio tracks. These files package multiple assets, such as high-resolution images or audio files, into a single, specialized container.
You can natively open these files using the official Zinio Reader. Because the underlying structure is essentially a compressed archive, you can also decompress them using standard archiving tools like WinZip or 7-Zip.
The main disadvantage of the .ZAB format is its proprietary software lock-in. Users are typically forced into a specific, closed ecosystem to access their content. The files are not supported by web browsers, and mobile devices cannot natively play a .ZAB audiobook without first unzipping it. Furthermore, these archives frequently exceed 100MB, making them cumbersome to store and transfer.
To improve accessibility, users frequently convert .ZAB files to standard ZIP archives to access the raw internal files. From there, magazine images can be compiled into a universally supported PDF, or audio tracks can be extracted directly to MP3. Note that converting away from the native app means you will lose platform-specific features like synced bookmarks or interactive overlays.
This file format is difficult to open or convert online because the obscure extension hides the underlying binary structure, causing standard converters to reject it instantly.
