About ZFC files
The .ZFC file extension is a notorious chameleon format with multiple distinct, mutually exclusive identities. Most frequently, it functions as a Ransomware Encrypted File deployed by the Zilla File Crypter malware, holding user data hostage inside a compressed container. Alternatively, it is widely used as a Compressed Emulator Save State for the FCEUX NES Emulator to freeze gameplay, a Z-code interactive fiction game file built for the Infocom Z-machine, or a proprietary clash detection cache file generated by AVEVA E3D Design. Because .ZFC files belong to entirely disconnected software ecosystems, users face significant friction when trying to manage them. A save state created in an older version of FCEUX might refuse to load in a newer build, and an AVEVA CAD cache is completely locked down. Furthermore, if a .ZFC file suddenly appears on your drive replacing your personal documents, it is likely a highly restricted encrypted archive rather than a usable file. Standard online converters inevitably fail to process these files because an engine expecting 3D clash detection data will immediately crash when fed an 8-bit Nintendo memory snapshot. When dealing with a legitimate game save or Z-code archive, the best conversion targets involve extracting the underlying data. FCEUX save states are often just standard compressed archives under the hood, meaning you can sometimes change the extension to ZIP to extract the raw ROM state. For interactive fiction, converting the story data to TXT is ideal for documentation. Direct conversion to a video format like MP4 from an emulator save is impossible without rendering it live. Even if the format is obscure, our analysis engine can identify the underlying structure, extract internal text strings, and determine if an embedded standard format is present for safe extraction.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ZFC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ZFC Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ZFC converter.
