The .z01 file is the first sequential part of a split ZIP archive. Users create split archives to bypass file size limits for email attachments, cloud uploads, or older FAT32 storage drives. To extract the contents, all parts (the base ZIP file, .z01, z02, etc.) must be present in the exact same directory.

The major disadvantage of the .z01 format is dependency. If one single part of the sequence is missing or corrupted, the entire archive becomes unreadable. Furthermore, the built-in operating system extraction tools in both Windows and macOS frequently fail to recognize or reconstruct split archives, resulting in frustrating "invalid folder" errors for users.
You cannot directly convert a standalone .z01 file into a media file or document. Instead, you must extract its enclosed payload.
