The .WVX file format is a Windows Media Video Redirector file. It functions as an XML-based metafile or playlist primarily used by Windows Media Player to locate and stream multimedia content over the internet. Instead of holding raw video or audio data, a .WVX file stores plain text containing network URLs or local directory paths pointing to the actual media streams, usually in WMV or WMA formats.
The main disadvantage of the .WVX format is user confusion. Because it is associated with video playback, users frequently mistake it for an actual video container. Attempts to upload the file to standard video converters inevitably fail, as the file typically weighs less than 1KB and contains absolutely zero video frames.
