Convert a file to WSZ
To convert other file formats to the "Winamp Classic Skin Archive" file type, you need software like Winamp or a similar tool.
About WSZ files
A .wsz file typically functions as a Winamp Classic Skin, a format popularized by the legacy Winamp media player to change its graphical interface. Internally, it is simply a standard ZIP archive containing raw user interface assets like BMP images, CUR cursors, and TXT configuration files. A smaller subset of these files are Winsteps compressed data files which use zlib compression for statistical software. Users typically need to convert or extract .wsz files because modern systems and media players do not support this proprietary legacy format. The main disadvantage of the format is its hyper-specificity; the UI mapping works only in Winamp or strict clones like Audacious. You cannot natively convert a skin into a modern app theme. Instead, the best workaround is to extract the .wsz archive into standard ZIP, BMP, or PNG files to recover the original graphics. This file format is notoriously difficult to process via standard online converters because it requires specific parsing of the directory structure.
Convert.Guru analyzes your WSZ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert WSZ file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Winamp or similar software from the "Media Player Interface Skin" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to WSZ, try Winamp or another comparable tool in the "Media Player Interface Skin" category.
The WSZ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WSZ converter.
