The .WPP extension is predominantly associated with WavePad Audio Editor project files created by NCH Software. These are not actual audio files containing sound data; rather, they are small XML-based instruction lists that reference audio clips stored elsewhere on your hard drive. A common frustration users encounter is sending a .WPP file to a client or friend, only to find the recipient cannot open it because they lack the source audio files or the specific software. To make these usable, you must open the project in WavePad and export it to a standard format like MP3, WAV, or FLAC.
Alternatively, roughly 20% of .WPP files are legacy website project files from Serif WebPlus, a now-discontinued web design tool. These files contain the layout, text, and images for a website but are not viewable in standard web browsers like Google Chrome. Since Serif ceased development of WebPlus in 2017, these files are effectively "locked" in a proprietary format. However, newer versions of these files often utilize a ZIP-based container structure. Renaming the extension from .WPP to ZIP can sometimes allow you to extract embedded images and assets without needing the obsolete software. For full conversion, the original WebPlus application is required to "Publish" the site to standard HTML.
