Primarily, a .WPP file is a WavePad Audio Project created by NCH Software's WavePad. Rather than storing the actual audio waveform, it saves the timeline layout, track cuts, and the specific effects applied during editing. A secondary, but highly problematic, use case is as a Website Project file created by the discontinued Serif WebPlus software.
The main disadvantage of .WPP files is that they are entirely proprietary and act as restrictive containers. A WavePad .WPP file is practically useless without the software installed. It merely points to local audio files on your hard drive; if you move or delete those source files, the project breaks. For Serif WebPlus users, the reality is even worse. The software was completely abandoned in 2016, making it incredibly difficult to open old website projects or extract their assets without legacy hardware. Neither version of this file is supported by modern web browsers, media players, or mobile devices.
To actually use these files, conversion or extraction is mandatory. For audio projects, you need to convert to an MP3 or WAV file for playback, sharing, and distribution. For old WebPlus archives, converting to HTML or extracting the embedded images is the only way to recover the locked data.
