Because the file depends on the game's assets to "render" the scene, it cannot be opened in standard media players like VLC Media Player or Windows Media Player. Furthermore, these files are strictly version-locked; a replay saved in version 9.0 will typically fail to load in version 10.0 due to map or physics changes.
