About WLZ files

A .WLZ file is a multi-purpose container format most frequently used as a Winamp Language Pack. In this context, it is simply a standard ZIP archive that has been renamed; it contains localization data (.lng files) to change the interface language of the Winamp media player. Because the operating system does not natively recognize the .wlz extension as an archive, users often face friction when trying to inspect or edit the translation strings manually.

Another significant use case is in industrial automation, where .WLZ serves as a project export or compressed backup for Winlog SCADA software by Sielco Sistemi. These files package HMI (Human Machine Interface) configurations and historical data. Less commonly, the format is used by WinImage for compressed disk images.
