About WIL files

The .wil file extension primarily denotes a Wemade Image Library, a proprietary archive format developed by Wemade for their MMORPG titles, most notably The Legend of Mir. These files function as massive containers for game assets, storing thousands of individual bitmap sprites - such as character animations, weapon textures, and environmental tiles - within a single compressed file to optimize game performance.

For modders and server administrators, the .wil format presents significant friction. Because it is a compiled game archive, it is completely incompatible with standard graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP. Users often find themselves locked out of the content, unable to view or edit sprites without tracking down obscure, legacy community tools like "Mir Viewer" or "Will Editor." For creative use, the ideal workflow is converting the internal contents into standard PNG or BMP sequences, allowing for transparency support and easy editing.

Secondarily, a .wil file may represent a Measurement Data Log generated by Wilmers Messtechnik equipment. These files capture sensor data in a structured format that is often unreadable by standard text editors. To analyze this data effectively, users typically need to convert the file into a CSV (Comma-Separated Values) or XLSX format for import into Microsoft Excel.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WIL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted WLZ, BWZ and IMZ files.

The WIL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WIL converter.
