About VSF files
The .VSF file extension is heavily fragmented across several distinct and incompatible systems. Most commonly, it represents a Voltage SecureMail Encrypted File, created by OpenText Voltage SecureMail to securely transmit sensitive emails. Another large portion consists of VCL Visual Style Themes used by developers in Embarcadero Delphi and DevExpress to skin Windows applications. Older, legacy uses include Skype voice messages and VICE Commodore 64 emulator snapshots.
Because of this fragmentation, opening or converting a .VSF file is incredibly difficult. If it is a SecureMail file, it is highly proprietary and mathematically locked; it requires the Voltage Zero Trust recipient client and explicit cryptographic keys. It is explicitly designed to block third-party access, meaning standard online converters will fail completely. VCL Themes are proprietary UI elements that only compile within specific IDEs.
Ideally, SecureMail files must be decrypted back to standard EML, PDF, or HTML formats using the official client. Skype VSF voice messages could technically be converted to MP3 or WAV, but the legacy codec is often unsupported by modern audio tools.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because it is either heavily encrypted or highly specialized. Standard converters will simply throw an error. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

The VSF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VSF converter.
