About MAE files
The .MAE extension is shared by two distinct but highly technical environments: accounting and computational chemistry. Most commonly, it serves as the proprietary database file for Sage 100 (formerly Sage Maestro) accounting software. In this context, the file acts as the central repository for a company's financial data, storing general ledger entries, customer records, and tax configurations. Because these are proprietary binary databases, they act as a "black box" - users cannot simply double-click to view them in Microsoft Excel. Access typically requires the original Sage software or a configured ODBC driver to extract data, creating significant friction for users attempting to migrate systems or archive financial history without maintaining expensive software licenses.
Alternatively, in the scientific community, the .MAE file is a Molecular Modeling input associated with Schrödinger Maestro. These files contain complex 3D chemical structures, atom properties, and simulation data used in drug discovery and materials science. While powerful for research, the format is often incompatible with general-purpose visualization tools or web publishing.
Conversion Recommendations:
For Accounting (Sage): The primary goal is data extraction. Converting to CSV or XLSX allows for analysis in spreadsheets or migration to modern ERP systems like Xero or QuickBooks.
For Chemistry (Schrödinger): To share molecular structures with colleagues who do not use Maestro, convert these files to standard formats like PDB (Protein Data Bank), SDF, or MOL2.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MAE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert MAE file to MSE, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP or SAV, you can use Sage 100 or similar software from the "Accounting Database & Molecular Modeling" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to MAE, try Sage 100 or another comparable tool in the "Accounting Database & Molecular Modeling" category.
The MAE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MAE converter.
