About UZIP files

The .UZIP file format is a compressed disk image utilized by the FreeBSD operating system. Specifically, it relies on the geom_uzip module originally developed by Maxim Sobolev to create read-only compressed virtual block devices. Under the hood, these files often utilize shell scripts wrapping compressed data. This format presents severe limitations for average users. Because .UZIP is heavily tied to the FreeBSD kernel, it is practically unusable on standard desktop operating systems. Standard archiving tools like WinRAR or 7-Zip cannot mount or extract .UZIP file systems natively because it requires a dedicated OS environment to decompress the block device on the fly. To access the trapped data, users typically need to convert the .UZIP file into universally supported disk image formats like IMG or ISO, or extract the internal contents into a standard TAR or ZIP archive. Converting allows the data to be mounted on Windows, macOS, or Linux. Standard online converters fail to process .UZIP files because they lack the specific OS-level drivers required to read the FreeBSD file system inside. This is a closed, highly system-specific format. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UZIP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SCRIPT, ECM and ISZ files.
