About SCRIPT files
A .script file is a generic extension used for source code, automation commands, or game logic. Because the extension is so broad, a .script file could be a Unix terminal session transcript generated by the Bash command, a database creation query for HSQLDB, a robotics program for Universal Robots, or game logic for engines like S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s Source3 or Star Wars: Battlefront.
The primary disadvantage of the .script format is its ambiguity. You rarely know what application created it or how it is encoded until you analyze its headers. While some are plain text, others are compiled binaries, UTF-16 LE encrypted game data (like in Titan Quest), or even ZIP archives disguised as scripts. Opening a compiled script in a standard text editor will result in software crashes or unreadable gibberish.
To make these files accessible, you often need to convert them based on their true underlying format. For text-based scripts, convert to TXT or PDF for easier sharing and archiving. If the file is a Lua script, converting to LUA restores proper syntax highlighting in code editors. For archive-based scripts, converting to ZIP allows you to extract the contents.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SCRIPT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SCRIPT file to AUDIO, VIDEO, TEXT, PDF, EXE, MSI, APP, DMG, DEB, RPM, PKG or RUN, you can use Notepad++ or similar software from the "Generic Script or Code File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert JAR, APP, SCR, IPA, COM, AAB, PS1, DMG, VBS, EXE, XAPK or MSI files to SCRIPT, try Notepad++ or another comparable tool in the "Generic Script or Code File" category.
The SCRIPT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SCRIPT converter.
