About UTM files

The .UTM file extension is a classic example of a "collision" format, shared by completely unrelated industries ranging from drone aviation to video games and virtualization.

Most commonly, users encounter this file as a Flight Log generated by Yuneec drones (like the Typhoon series) via the DataPilot software. These files contain critical telemetry data - GPS coordinates, battery voltage, and altitude - formatted in a way that is readable by the drone's system but largely useless to a human user on a standard PC. The proprietary structure means you cannot simply double-click to view your flight path in Google Earth or analyze battery performance in Microsoft Excel. To make this data actionable, you must convert the .utm log into standard formats like CSV (for spreadsheets) or KML (for mapping).

Alternatively, if you are a gamer or modder, a .utm file is often a Merchant Blueprint from BioWare Dragon Age: Origins or an ancient map file from Unreal Tournament. These are binary game assets designed to lock data away from casual editing. Modders often need to convert these to XML or text-based formats to tweak store inventories or map properties, a process that usually requires specific community-built extractors rather than standard converters.

Finally, macOS users may recognize the .utm extension as a virtual machine container used by UTM (a QEMU-based visualizer). In reality, this "file" is a directory (package) disguised as a single file by macOS. Moving this to a Windows machine often results in a folder full of disk images (like QCOW2) and config files that confuse standard conversion tools.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UTM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZIP, PDF, TXT, ISO, HTML, ASPX, CRDOWNLOAD, ATP, VTU and TED files.

The UTM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UTM converter.
