About UCF files

The .ucf file extension primarily represents the Universal Communications Format, a proprietary container used by Cisco Webex to store meeting recordings, shared documents, and rich media presentations. While efficient for the Webex ecosystem, these files pose significant compatibility challenges for users outside of it; they are often encrypted or formatted in a way that standard media players like VLC or Windows Media Player cannot decode. This forces recipients to download the specific Webex Player or legacy Network Recording Player just to view a meeting. To make these recordings accessible on mobile devices, shareable via email, or editable in video software, users should convert .UCF files to standard video formats like MP4 (H.264) or WMV.

Alternatively, in the field of electronics engineering, a .ucf file is a User Constraints File generated by Xilinx ISE (now part of AMD). These are plain ASCII text files used to define pin assignments and timing constraints for FPGAs (Field-Programmable Gate Arrays). The main constraint here is obsolescence: modern workflows using Vivado Design Suite favor the newer XDC format. Engineers often need to convert legacy .UCF files to TXT for documentation or migrate their logic to XDC for modern hardware support.

Convert.Guru analyzes your UCF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TXT, XML, BIN, CRDOWNLOAD, ARF, WBT, WRF and XDC files.

The UCF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our UCF converter.
