The .twb file is a Tableau Workbook File created by Tableau Desktop. It stores the structural metadata of a data visualization project, including worksheet layouts, dashboard designs, calculation formulas, and database connection details. Under the hood, .twb files are written in standard XML.
Users typically need to convert .twb files when they want to share their dashboards with colleagues or clients who do not have a paid Tableau license. However, the biggest disadvantage of the .twb format is that it does not contain the actual data. It only holds the connection references to the source database or local spreadsheet.
