About TSL files
A .TSL file is primarily known as a Tone Studio Liveset, a configuration file generated by BOSS Tone Studio. It serves as a container for storing and sharing collections of guitar effects presets (patches) for BOSS amplifiers and multi-effects processors, such as the Katana series or GT-1000. Internally, the file is structured as standard JSON, holding detailed parameter values for amp models, equalizer settings, and effect chains.
While .TSL files are text-based, they present significant challenges for users without the specific hardware. You cannot "play" a .TSL file like an audio file (e.g., MP3 or WAV), as it contains instructions for sound generation rather than the sound itself. Furthermore, these files are often hardware-specific; a liveset made for a BOSS Katana MkII may not load correctly on a BOSS GT-1 or older firmware versions, leading to import errors. For archiving or sharing settings without the proprietary software, users should convert .TSL to JSON or TXT to make the parameter data human-readable. For documentation purposes, converting the data structure to PDF allows musicians to print and reference their settings offline.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TSL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted TLS, TSV, STL, RAR, PNG, ZIP, TSX, BEL, TST and FMF files.
The TSL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TSL converter.
