The .BEL file extension typically represents a Boss Effect Library file, a format utilized by BOSS Tone Studio to store, organize, and deploy guitar effects presets to hardware amplifiers like the Katana or GT series. Internally, these files are often structured as JSON data, defining parameters for gain, EQ, delay, and reverb.

The Problem: While efficient for hardware communication, .BEL files are proprietary wrappers that obscure the data from the user. You cannot double-click to view your settings, and opening them in a standard text editor can be messy if the formatting is compressed. This creates a reliance on the specific version of Tone Studio matching your amp firmware - if the software becomes unsupported, your presets are locked away.
