About TOE files
A .TOE file is a proprietary project file created by TouchDesigner, a node-based visual programming language used for real-time interactive multimedia. It contains procedural node networks, user interface configurations, Python scripts, and GLSL shaders. Typically, these files are opened exclusively using TouchDesigner (see TouchDesigner on Wikipedia). Users frequently want to convert these files to share their interactive visual outputs with clients or team members who do not have the software installed. The main disadvantage of the .TOE format is its rigid proprietary nature. It acts as an execution graph rather than a static media file. Because it requires a heavy, specialized runtime engine to process real-time instructions, it is completely unsupported by standard media players or web browsers. The most practical conversion targets are standard video formats like MP4 or MOV, or image sequence formats like EXR. However, this format is exceptionally difficult to convert externally. Because a .TOE file does not store pre-rendered video, standard online converters fail to process it. Usually, only the original software can properly execute the procedural graph and export the final render data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
