To convert other file formats to the "Visual Synthesis Project" file type, you need software like TouchDesigner or a similar tool.
A .TOE file is the native binary project format for Derivative TouchDesigner, a node-based visual programming language used for real-time interactive multimedia. Unlike a finished video or executable, this file contains the raw logical network - operators, Python scripts, and parameter settings - required to generate the visuals.
The main drawback for users is confusing a .TOE file with a media file; you cannot open it in media players like VLC or upload it to YouTube. It is strictly a set of instructions, not the rendered output. Additionally, because the format is proprietary and version-sensitive, opening an older .TOE file in a newer version of TouchDesigner may require component updates.
To "convert" this file, you generally need to render the output within the software. For video playback, use the 'Movie File Out' operator to convert the real-time stream to MP4 or MOV. For 3D assets, geometry can be exported to FBX or OBJ. For archiving or sharing components, parts of the network can be saved as .TOX files.
