About TLD files

The .TLD file extension represents a collision between two very different industries: industrial manufacturing and web development. The most frequent use (approx. 28%) is a Trotec Laser Design file generated by JobControl software. These files act as containers (often ZIP-based) for laser cutting jobs, storing vector paths, raster data, and material settings sent from design software like CorelDRAW or Adobe Illustrator. The primary problem here is proprietary lock-in: you typically cannot view or edit these files without a licensed copy of JobControl connected to a Trotec laser machine. This makes archiving or client proofing difficult. For these files, the best conversion workflow is usually to PDF for viewing or back to DXF/AI if you need to recover the vector geometry.

Alternatively, in the software world, .TLD stands for Tag Library Descriptor. These are XML-formatted text files used in Java-based web applications (Jakarta EE / Java EE) to define custom tag libraries for JSP (JavaServer Pages). While these are standard text files, they are strict regarding syntax. Developers often need to convert or validate them against schemas, or simply convert them to TXT or HTML documentation for easier reading by non-developers. Other niche uses include CNC label databases by Biesse Group or lighting templates by Lighting Analysts.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TLD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TLJ, TLD_, DDS, TLDR, TDL, PNG, PDF, JPG, ZIP, H, GROOVY and ADT files.

The TLD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TLD converter.
