About ADT files
The .ADT file extension primarily represents an Advantage Database Server (ADS) table file, originally developed by Extended Systems and later acquired by Sybase and SAP. These files store relational database records, schemas, and indices in a proprietary binary format. While efficient for legacy applications, accessing data within an .ADT file is a significant challenge for modern workflows because it requires the specific Advantage Local Server or remote database drivers. Users cannot simply double-click to view the contents in Microsoft Excel or standard text editors. This "locked box" nature makes data migration and analysis difficult.
To liberate your data for reporting or system migration, the best approach is converting these tables to open formats. For data analysis and spreadsheet use, converting .ADT to CSV or XLSX is the standard solution. For archiving or migrating to modern database systems like PostgreSQL or MySQL, converting to SQL dumps is recommended.
Note on other formats: A significant minority of .ADT files are AutoCAD Audit Logs. These are plain text files generated during drawing audits. While they are technically readable, their extension prevents standard text editors from recognizing them automatically. Converting these to TXT or PDF ensures they can be easily shared and archived without software conflicts.

The ADT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ADT converter.
