About TLB files

.TLB files are binary data files primarily used as COM Object Type Libraries in the Windows ecosystem. They store type information, interfaces, and methods for Component Object Model (COM) and Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) components. A smaller percentage of .TLB files act as Transaction Log Backup files for Intuit QuickBooks. Developers primarily use Microsoft Visual Studio to generate and interact with these developer files. In the case of QuickBooks, the software uses them to recover lost database data. The main disadvantage of the .TLB format is that it is a proprietary, compiled binary file. You cannot open it in a standard text editor. It is strictly tied to the Windows development environment. Users often need to convert or decompile these files to read the API definitions or migrate legacy code. The most common conversion targets for a developer .TLB file are IDL (Interface Definition Language) or ODL (Object Description Language) files. For QuickBooks .TLB files, which are often internally compressed as GZIP, users may need to extract the raw backup data. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because standard online converters do not understand compiled Microsoft COM metadata. Often, only the original developer tools can accurately reconstruct the source code. If our analysis detects standard text, embedded resources, or a recognized compression method like GZIP, we will show you the internal content and offer extraction options.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TLB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DLL, TBL, EXE, TLH, O and PRI files.

The TLB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TLB converter.
