About TAO files

The .TAO file is most commonly a Track-At-Once disc image created by legacy CD/DVD duplication software. It stores exact copies of discs by writing tracks individually, leaving gaps between them. Alternatively, it is a proprietary sound library file used by the Akai MPC Software for music production. You can extract the disc image version using specialized tools like IsoBuster or ImgBurn, while the audio libraries require the official Akai ecosystem. Users frequently need to convert .TAO files because the format is practically obsolete. Unlike a standard ISO file, you cannot natively mount a .TAO disc image on modern operating systems like Windows 11 or macOS without relying on third-party software. Similarly, the Akai MPC audio container locks your samples inside a paid software environment, making sharing and generic playback impossible. The best conversion targets for a .TAO disc image are ISO for standard data, or a BIN and CUE pair for multi-track audio CDs. For Akai MPC files, extracting the samples to universal WAV or MP3 files is recommended. Note that converting a Track-At-Once disc image to a single ISO may result in the loss of the specific 2-second track gaps defined by the original burning method. This format is incredibly frustrating to open because generic tools cannot determine if the file is a disc image or an audio library. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. Drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our analysis tools can inspect the header, determine the file type, and extract standard embedded audio or file directories if present.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TAO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted SLB, PLL and LLB files.
