About SWT files

The .swt extension is a battleground of proprietary template formats, most commonly serving as an ID Card Design Template for Brady EasyID software or a page layout template for Swift Publisher on macOS.

The Problem: Proprietary Lock-In

If you have an .swt file, you are likely stuck.
1. Brady EasyID Users: These files contain badge layouts, barcode placeholders, and employee data structures. They are designed exclusively for printing on Brady industrial printers. You cannot open them in Microsoft Word or view them on a mobile device, making approval workflows difficult without converting to PDF.
2. Swift Publisher Users: Mac users utilize this format for flyers and brochures. Sharing these designs with Windows users is impossible without exporting, as the raw .swt file is unreadable outside the Apple ecosystem.
3. Legacy Flash: In rare cases (roughly 5%), this file is an obsolete Flash Generator Template from the Adobe era, which modern browsers no longer support.
