About SRW files
The .SRW file extension primarily denotes a Samsung Raw Image, a high-fidelity format captured by Samsung digital cameras (notably the NX series). Unlike processed JPGs, these files contain unprocessed sensor data based on the TIFF structure, offering maximum dynamic range for professional editing. However, this quality comes with significant friction: .SRW files are uncompressed and massive (often exceeding 30MB), creating storage bottlenecks. Because the format is proprietary to Samsung - who exited the standalone camera market years ago - native support in modern operating systems and web browsers is inconsistent. You cannot upload an .SRW directly to Instagram or view it in a standard browser. To use these images practically, you must convert them. For web sharing and social media, converting to JPG or WebP is essential to reduce file size and ensure compatibility. For archiving or editing in non-proprietary software, converting to the open standard DNG or lossless TIFF is recommended. Less commonly, an .SRW file might be a weather resource file for the NREL System Advisor Model or a window source file for SAP PowerBuilder, both of which are text-based and distinct from the image format.

The SRW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SRW converter.
