About SNT files
The .SNT file extension is associated with the legacy version of Microsoft Sticky Notes, a utility included in Windows 7, Windows 8, and early builds of Windows 10. These files serve as the primary database (StickyNotes.snt) for storing note contents, window positions, and formatting data. While functional in older operating systems, the .SNT format is now effectively obsolete; modern versions of Sticky Notes (Windows 10 Anniversary Update and later) utilize a SQLite database (plum.sqlite) instead. Consequently, users often encounter these files when attempting to restore backups to a new PC, only to find that Windows 11 cannot open them natively. Because the file uses the proprietary Microsoft Compound File Binary format, attempting to open it in a standard text editor like Notepad++ results in unreadable binary characters mixed with fragmented text. To recover your data without reinstalling an old operating system, the most practical solution is to convert the file. For immediate access to the content, convert to TXT (Plain Text). To preserve bolding, italics, and color coding, convert to RTF (Rich Text Format) or DOCX (Microsoft Word).
Convert.Guru analyzes your SNT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted NST, PDF, TXT, TMP, RPT, ZIP, JPG, EXE and SQLITE files.
The SNT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SNT converter.
