About SKI files

The .SKI file extension is primarily a Skinned 3D Model file utilized by the Perfect World Angelica Engine. These files store complex 3D character data, including polygon meshes, textures, skeletal hierarchies (bones), and vertex weight assignments necessary for 3D animation. A minor secondary use for the .SKI extension is as a legacy Motorola Phone Skin, which functions as an archive containing user interface themes, bitmaps, and layout data for older Motorola mobile devices.

To interact with Angelica Engine .SKI files, game developers and modders typically rely on Autodesk 3ds Max equipped with community-built import/export plugins specific to the Perfect World ecosystem. Motorola skin files require outdated, specialized Motorola device manager software that is largely incompatible with modern operating systems.

Users often need to convert .SKI files because the format is highly proprietary and closed-source. You cannot open a .SKI file in standard 3D viewers, web browsers, or modern operating systems natively. The format locks the 3D asset or theme data inside an engine-specific container, making it extremely difficult to port characters to other game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine without specialized intermediate tools.

For 3D models, the best conversion targets are standard formats like FBX or DAE (Collada), which preserve the skeletal rigging and vertex weights, or OBJ if you only need the static geometry. For Motorola skins, renaming the file extension to ZIP often allows you to extract the underlying PNG or JPG image assets. However, converting .SKI files natively is notoriously difficult because standard online converters lack the proprietary engine libraries required to decode the vertex data.

This is a heavily restricted format. Standard online converters fail to process it because the internal structure is specific to proprietary game engines or obsolete mobile hardware. Just drag and drop your .SKI file into convert.guru to identify its exact variant, inspect the internal hex or text data, and extract embedded assets or convert it if our engine detects a supported underlying structure.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SKI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted NVX2, PT and RBXM files.

FAQ

If you want to convert SKI file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use Autodesk 3ds Max or similar software from the "Skinned 3D Model Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to SKI, try Autodesk 3ds Max or another comparable tool in the "Skinned 3D Model Storage" category.

The SKI Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SKI converter.
